Great piece. Thanks. The Western world does seem like a lumbering, and possibly injured, elephant right now. Poilievre is convinced (or is merely trying to convince us) that Carney hasn't achieved anything. That and the Conservative party's relative silence on the sad folly of Alberta separation is very disappointing.

I was heartened, at least, to see Poilievre in Alberta this week, finally campaigning for national unity. Hopefully he keeps it up.

The former is certainly liklier than the latter!

Wherever will we find another iconoclast journalist capable of seducing Canadian and American airmen? I mean, where will you run?

A truly fine long read.

appreciate the deep reading and research you are doing, helps to think outside the main channels of thought. Lately, I am getting frustrated by how little writing there is that helps us to imagine the next normal, despite worthy analysis that tries to explain the present.

The history lessons in your articles are an invaluable part of my understanding of the issues you write about. This one is worrying me a bit but I try to keep my hopes up that Prime Minister Carney can help turn the tide of the far-right in our country and in Europe especially. Also, I am sorry that Zelensky dismissed such an innovator as Fedorov but I’m happy he was welcomed in Italy.
