Altogether a very upbeat post, especially as you conjure up an audience not tethered to their phones! The backlash against algorithmification is clearly under way.

The music scene you describe is not mine, but for any genre (mine being 'classical') the bottom line is the same: Nothing beats a live performance!

Was it upbeat? I'm glad it came off that way.

I am a total musical omnivore, but 'classical' (chamber, baroque, orchestral, whatever) just isn't for me. But I've been to a few community orchestras in the past year and have been floored by how great the attendance and excitement is. And it's been an incredibly young crowd (and orchestra.)

It’s all a bit of a mind shift when one is used to younger people as digital natives, while the rest of us are more likely to struggle as things change. But the younger people also tend to rebel, and in a world where even my 90+ mom spends a not insignificant time looking at her phone, this really seems like a statement.

Flip-phones and FM radios are back in style for a reason! I just picked up Brian Merchant's new-ish book Blood in the Machine, about the Luddites. I'm sure I'll write about it at some point.

Another act barnstorming the public concert space is Angine de Poitrine. Like

Geordie Greep this duo explores the microtonal, the interstitial space between. People are looking for new ground.
