This is so important for people to be aware of. These techno-autocrats consider themselves to be the Cognitive Elite, and despise the hoi-palloi electorate who they consider idiots. The “masses”. They believe they were born to rule by virtue of their superior intellect and thus this yearning for a monarchy or dictatorship. Democracy is too messy. Yarvin was the inspiration for the DOGE tear down. Seems they were surprised to find most government employees weren’t spending all their time chewing gum and watching cat videos for pay.

I’ve looked into their Network State Prospera in the Honduras, where they’re engaged in (among other things) unregulated medicine. Particularly the Follistan treatment for anti-aging. Techbro Bryan Johnson did it, no surprise.

I hope to see more journalists publishing about the broligarchy in the future. It’s all in plain sight, but people aren’t looking.

I read the underlined articles and my worry is that Jivani being in collusion with JD Vance can help Poilièvre to pursue the same direction, which he has already embarked on. The Conservatives should take heed as well as Liberal politicians. Poilièvre and his gang are playing with fire, stifling his caucus into subservience and trying to do the same with the media. Wevare in for a bigger fight than I thought. Thank you for your service.

This is very good, thanks for it.

I'm someone who was deep in libertarianism when Thiel wrote that famous anti-democratic, misogynistic essay at Cato (reading someone allegedly on "my side" arguing for my disenfranchisement was the first step in my journey from democratic skeptic to enthusiast), but who was using 'exit' arguments to push for open borders and freedom from oppressive associations. I worry about what it means to lose 'exit' as a concept to people looking to bolt all the doors.

I don't know that I've ever really considered myself a libertarian, but there's certainly aspects of it I find appealing. And yet who out there, right now, is really elucidating actual libertarian values these days? It feels like every single one has signed up, in one form or another, for Trumpism — the antithesis of free markets and free people.

I'm not sure if you're actually asking for a list. There are people who really meant (and mean) it! But far fewer are using the libertarian label because, yeah, so many who've claimed it just hated the left more than they loved liberty (as my late friend Steve used to say).

To be a coherent group, libertarians seemed to need state socialism or something like it on the other side. Without that, it seems like it took about a quarter century to crack up. The coalition against fascism just looks completely different.

Agreed. Libertarianism has become a cover for a lot of meanness and general craziness. I'm sure you know the podcast Decoding the Gurus, which does an excellent job of espousing these folks for who they really are. And "Libertarian" doesn't come close. Like you, Justin, the hosts also did a great piece on Curtis Yarvin. Honestly, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at some of his "deep thinking."

This was enlightening. Thanks for reporting on the theories and players. The US is in a troubling place.

I wish reporters would stop treating the MAGA US White House’s actions as legitimate. CBC radio this morning referred to the US/UK trade agreement as if it was as substantial and legitimate as NAFTA and then the reporter was moving on to the state of “trade talks” between the US and China when I switched off. As if. Thank you for this difficult but much more meaningful and substantive reporting.

I know exactly what you're saying. I want to root for the CBC but they make it very difficult.

Amazing and scary. Thanks for enlightening us.

This movement has to be stopped every step of the way.

Meanwhile progressives have to keep developing their own vision.
